This is a simple gadget that, by just plugging it in and turning it on, may increase the typical data transmission distance from 100 meters to 200 meters when using CAT5e/CAT6 UTP cable. There is no need for an extra power source or any further configuration.
It has three output ports, which makes it feasible for two different 802.3af/at devices to be powered via a single CAT5/CAT6 cable from a PoE switch or a midspan power injector. This is made possible by the fact that the PoE switch also has three output ports. Installation is substantially simplified as a result, and there is no need to connect extra cables in order to accommodate network growth.
